After adding finishing touches my next step was to solicit peer reviews. I knew it was important to receive constructive criticism on my work in the hopes of improving the quality of my magazine. The first person I asked to look over my magazine was my classmate. She was impressed with my work; however, she did note that my cover was lacking a visual on the bottom right corner. She recommended I either add a word/phrase or an image on that b lank space. I ended up writing lifestyle, live fashionably in that space, per her suggestion. The second person to review my magazine had keen insight since she was also creating a fashion magazine for this portfolio project. She comprehensively read o ver my feature article and marked some spelling and grammar errors. She also advised me to rearrange my photos to be stacked a certain way that was more visually pleasing. I took into consideration my peers' op...

Once I was almost done, I started adding finishing touches, small details to accentuate the magazine's chic look. On my table of contents page for instance, there was an abundance of blank white space. I added boxes of different shades of pink, which correlates with the theme. There are no pictures included on the table of contents because the simplistic look appears more refined and sophisticated. I also added a little subheading with the name of the magazine (chic wear) on the top of all the content pages. I made it a very small size with a cursive font. Additionally, it is important to note that I edited some color changes on my cover image. In the original photograph the model was wearing navy blue converse and the wall design was a light brown. I changed the hue of both elements to a sage green. The matching colors added a cohesive aspect to the cover overall.

Once I finished writing my feature article and editing my pictures, I had to import them into InDesign. I first started with my cover, using my storyboard as a guide t o design it ; I love how it turned out. Arranging the cover lines and masthead was my favorite part. Originally my second page was going to consist of popular trends content, including pictures of hair scarfs, bandana tops, purses, and hair clips . I used the software to stack the images and add headings and subtitles to the photos. The page looked somewhat blank with the simple white background, so I decided to add some light pink butterfly stickers to outline the page. In the end I decided to change it to be a table of contents page. I used the software to put together a grid of white and pink boxes, I chose a bold font and simplistic typography to emphasize the page numbers listed. The last thing to work on is my feature article des ign. ...

At Plato’s Closet I talked to a worker who was able to answer my questions regarding the fast fashion trend. I have been there before to exchange clothes for a small profit. That is how they make their business, customers come in to donate clothes and they can either get cash back directly or they can shop around with store credit. It is a functional system that is highly beneficial to both parties involved. Not to mention the great advantages of thrifting on the environment . Anyhow, one of my main questions for this establishment was “ h ave they seen an increase in sales since this movement has become more aware of fast fashion ?” Comparatively, “have they seen increase in people bringing clothes in to the store ?” I found that there has in fact been an increase on both fronts. Ever since the fast fashion movement has gained some traction there has been more people trying to make a difference in any way they c...

Today I met up with Shayleen and Kennedi to interview them for my segment about young female entrepreneurs . It was very interesting to learn about how these girls that are my age managed to do something so inspirational. They both created their own small businesses from scratc h, I believe it is that kind of work ethic that needs to be instilled in every young generation. I asked many questions about the startup and the process of creating a business such as theirs . I learned that Shay first started as an Instagram account for selling clothes and once she grew clientele, she made a website. Both Shay and Kennedi sell their products at affordable prices since their target audience is teens and young adults. Shay mentioned that at first this was just a way to make a little extra cash, but she soon realized she has a passion for it. She intends to pursue a job in the fashion or business industry...

Today I conducted photoshoots to include in my magazine. I met up with my models and assistants to go through the photographing process. The first location we visited was downtown Sarasota, there are many artsy and picturesque spots to take pictures there. Next , we went to S iesta Key to take a few photo s on the beach. We also took some pictures in scenic backyards; the nature and plants/flowers provide a beautiful background. It was a long process, but the pleasant company made it endurable and eventful. Beatris , Maddy, Alana, and Shay were wonderful models. It was an enjoyable day, and I was able to capture a great deal of stunning pictures and outfit photos to use for the project. I am going to edit all my photos in adobe photoshop to make them more aesthetically pleasing. The next step is to import the photos into InDesign so I can start designing my m...
